North Jetty (Florence, OR) was designated in 2003 as Oregon's first official scuba park.
Divers should familiarize themselves with local tide tables, as tidal range can be as much as 7 ft (2m), and can cause some strong currents. Diving is recommended during slack time, which can range from 45 minutes to an hour. It is possible to swim upstream or downstream along the jetty, although upstream swimming is usually recommended.
A float and dive flag are required, and divers must stay within 50 ft (15 m) of the flag.
A small lagoon with a depth of 6 ft (2 m) on the western side can be used for confined water skills.
Underwater fishing and crabbing are allowed, however a license is required, and can be obtained from the local sporting goods store.
Visibility will vary from 8 ft (2 m) to 10 ft (9m), and is generally better in the winter.
Due to its closeness Woahink Lake is recommended as an alternative dive site, especially if conditions make North Jetty (Florence, OR) undiveable.

Underwater Features
"Crab Hole" - A natural depression at the bottom about 100 ft (30 m) in diameter and approximately 45 ft (1 m) deep, in which the incoming tidal flow will wash clams and other small mollusks into. Crabs will then follow, looking for an easy meal. The bottom is littered with shells. This is a very popular site for instructors leading students on tours.
